Transition GiddyUp Bikes Press Release

Before we get into the nuts and bolts of our new bikes we have to define what these
bikes are for. Everyone loves to attach a label to their bikes and put them into categories. Trail, all mountain, enduro, freeride, cross country, down country...  So why fight it? In our new lineup, every model is unique but they are all in the same category. These are mountain bikes designed for going...

The 2015 Transition lineup features four new models with different wheel sizes and distinctly different characteristics to suit a variety of riders, regions and trails.

  • PATROL (27.5" Wheelsize, 155mm Rear Travel/160mm Front Travel)
  • SUPPRESSOR (26" Wheelsize, 155mm Rear Travel/160mm Front Travel)
  • SCOUT (27.5" Wheelsize, 125mm Rear Travel/140mm Front Travel)
  • SMUGGLER (29" Wheelsize, 115mm Rear Travel/130mm Front Travel)

ABOUT GIDDYUP SUSPENSION

When we set out to design the new family of bikes, we wanted to improve our suspension pedaling and braking performance, but we didn't want to lose the neutral and comfortable feel that Transition Bikes are known for. No one at Transition wanted a suspension system that felt like it was locking out, or provided any "kick back" in the pedals. We also wanted to maintain the lively feel that makes a Transition fun and easy to ride. Our Giddy Up link is carefully tuned with just the right amount of chainstay growth at all points in the travel. The chainstay growth is highest near sag to keep you moving forward when you get on the gas. but it decreases deeper in the travel so you never feel the drivetrain fighting the suspension. Hop on a Giddy Up bike and you will feel at home immediately. Lively when you pedal, smooth in the rough stuff, and ready to boost off any kicker in the trail.

Our new models are designed to be active while climbing; increased compression damping or lockout settings are strictly optional with the Giddy Up link. With the shock open, the suspension remains free to smooth out the trail, improve traction and control without sacrificing efficiency. There is no need to think about flipping switches; you can start your ride with the shock open and leave it there. With Giddy Up you can focus on the trail, not your remotes, levers or knobs. Just grab your bike, Giddy Up and go.

Transition TR500 Press Release

The TR500 represents the latest innovation and evolution of Transition Bikes' downhill program. Starting from the huge success of the TR450, our goal was to create a lighter and stronger bike, improve the suspension kinematics, and update sizing options for modern trends. All this in a totally redesigned frame where no detail was overlooked. The result is a bike that sheds 1.2 lbs with increased strength in key areas, easier tuning and lighter spring weights, with a sexy new look.

To make your buying decision easier, we wanted to create two bikes in one. No more TR250 versus TR450 decision making. With simple and effective travel, geo and chainstay adjustments the TR500 can switch between a dual crown world cup racer to a single crown bike park-shredding machine in no time.

SUSPENSION

The TR500 uses all new suspension kinematics that have been updated to keep the rider higher in the travel for more available wheel travel all the time. Less progressive than the previous models with just the right amount of bottom out control. Riders can expect to use full travel without noticing any harsh bottom out. With an even more predictable suspension feel, you can make the most of the adjustment range in your rear shock for more tuning range. The TR500 is easy to setup, comfortable and familiar from the first ride.

DESIGN

The design goals of the TR500 were simple: make it stronger, lighter and sexier. This sounds simple, but a massive effort went into making these goals a reality. Every tube is custom hydroformed to achieve the clean aggressive lines. We pushed our manufacturing capabilities with details like a unified seattube/toptube gusset  utilizing a series of extremely complicated processes.

Every part of the bike has been sculpted to achieve maximum strength and shave weight while creating a distinct design language throughout. Every yoke, rocker and upright has been forged allowing us to create more complex shapes and push the design further than with a typical CNC process. The internal cable routing is complimented by a custom cable entry point with a rubber integrated fork bumper.  The result of all of these details is a perfect balance between form and function.

ADJUSTABILITY

The TR500 comes with the ability to adjust chainstay length, bottom bracket height, head angle, and travel from 200mm to 180mm. Simplified adjustments and easier access make trail side and course specific changes even easier. We encourage riders to play around with the adjustments to find their perfect settings. The TR500 was designed for 26" wheels in any setting, or 27.5" wheels in the low bottom bracket height and long chainstay settings.

SIZING AND GEO

The TR500 comes in 4 sizes (S, M, L, XL) to cover a broader range of rider heights and preferences than ever before.

Transition TR500

Hold onto your hat for the all new Transition TR500 DH bike. The TR500 is the true evolution of design and performance coming together to take Transition's DH program to the next level. The TR500 is lighter, stronger, sleeker and packed full of new features. All new geometry, more size options including a new XL, improved suspension kinematics for better small bump sensitivity, ability to run lower spring rates and a smoother leverage curve for easier tuning of the shock. The new TR500 can be run as a world cup class DH setup with a dual crown or throw it into the lower travel setting with short wheelbase and a 180mm single crown fork to create the ultimate bike park freeride shredding bike.

Transition Announces TR500

The all new TR500 has been designed from the ground up to be lighter, faster and stronger. All new suspension kinematics keep the bike higher in the travel for more available wheel travel and improved small bump and big hit sensitivity. We have simplified the adjustment options for easier geometry changes and no spare parts to lose. Proven and comfortable geometry with a new XL size for the tall guys or anyone looking for a little more length in their ride.

Now with two travel settings, the TR500 is our most versatile TR bike ever. Single crown or dual crown builds work equally well with the 180mm and 203mm travel options. Geometry settings for high speed stability and control on technical, steep downhill tracks or a nimble and playful feel on machine built jump and flow trails. With the TR500 you have all the options you need to dial in your bike for your unique riding style.

2013 Transition Carbon Covert Announced

Transition Bikes unveils the new carbon Covert. See the bike in action as well as some of the new features and design inspiration that went into creating Transition Bikes first carbon bike.

The 2013 Carbon Covert is Transition Bike’s first carbon frame offering. The 160mm travel Covert was the perfect candidate to bring to carbon as it allowed the bike to shed weight, improve strength, add new features, and update the look at the same time.

“In my mind, this bike really represents the ultimate no holds barred quiver killer. It's really everything I would want in a single do-everything type of bike and we've tried pretty hard to ensure all the right features are there without including things that don't really matter. A big goal of ours with this project was to develop something with very unique lines that you don't often see in bicycle frame design...and we feel we've really accomplished that. This was a long development effort so we're pretty pumped to finally unveil our first carbon frame.” Says Kyle Young, Transition Bikes owner.

Transition Bikes took the essence of the previous Covert but started from the ground up to produce something all new and extremely exciting. For design inspiration they looked outside the bike world towards Italian super cars. The carbon material allowed a no compromise design approach that allowed them to achieve exactly what they envisioned; powerful lines and a unique bold look. The frame uses some exciting new materials and an evolved suspension platform for the best possible performance on the trail.

The 2013 Carbon Covert is the first bike on the market to offer both C.O.C.K. and B.A.L.L.S. technology. The Completely Optimized Carbon Kinetics utilized in production of the carbon structure are an industry first; only available on Transition Bikes. The careful use of C.O.C.K. makes the Carbon Covert one of the strongest frames on the market today. The Basically Aligned Linear Leverage System suspension works with the shock making the suspension incredibly easy to tune; once again, only available on Transition Bikes. Our B.A.L.L.S. are only there to make sure you have fun on the trail. Unlike other suspension systems, our B.A.L.L.S. aren’t overly complicated, it’s just the right suspension technology to keep the ride smooth and predictable.

“When we first met in the lab to develop these new technologies, I didn’t realize just how big they would become. I am proud to see this bike released so everyone can experience the ultimate package.” Says Sam Burkhardt, Transition Bikes product manager.

Working in conjunction with the B.A.L.L.S. suspension system, the 2013 Carbon Covert features a longer 8.5” x 2.5” custom tuned Fox CTD Adjust rear shock. The longer shock helps contribute to improved suspension performance and easier shock setup for riders of any size. The rear travel has been increased from 150mm to 160mm further expanding the performance in gnarly terrain. For riders looking for ultimate downhill performance, an optional Fox RC4 coil shock is available as well. The B.A.L.L.S. suspension system uses a higher main pivot placement for improved pedaling performance with modern 2x10 and 1x10 drivetrain setups. An all new hardware system, with single allen key tightening, has been developed to keep the pivots tight. While the front triangle features full internal cable routing, including the Reverb Stealth routing for clean looks and integrated performance.

"This is definitely the most exciting bike we have ever done. It took much longer than we anticipated but when doing full suspension carbon you can't rush anything. Seeing carbon bikes being produced in person really makes you appreciate the massive amount of work that goes into each frame. I think there is a misconception that these bikes just pop out of molds and are good to go and that couldn't be further from the truth. Each frame is like a sculpted work of art.” Says Kevin Menard, owner of Transition Bikes.

The 2013 Carbon Covert will be available in three colors (Lemon Lime Metallic, Stealth Black & Matte White) with multiple build kit options to meet different rider preferences and price points.
