What riders have to say about the contest

What do you think of the contest and why?
It´s a superfun and relaxed contest and the perfect way to end the season with your friends. I am very over traveling right now, but will travel over the pond anyway. I guess that shows that it´s a pretty damn good contest!

What is the atmosphere like?
The atmosphere is definitely more towards having a good time then to win it. And that´s a great way to end a very competitive season.

Is the contest like other contest?
The comp and weekend have their own tweaks, always fun with something a bit different.

"Martin Soderstrom"

What do you think of the contest and why?
I think that the head to head format is awesome. It's unique for a dirt jump contest and it reminds me of racing dual slalom back in the day...

What is the atmosphere like?
Atmosphere is mellow. It feels like a jam.

Is the contest like other contest?
Nope, AT's Showdown is a refreshing detox from the hectic contest schedule that we go through over the summer.

Brendan Fairclough Wins The 2012 Crankworx Speed And Style

WHISTLER, BC August 11, 2012 – The invitational Dual Speed & Style presented by AVID was a huge success with the inaugural Whistler event filling Whistler Village, while thousands more tuned into the live webcast powered by Red Bull Media House.

Britain’s Brendan Fairclough, a rider widely recognized as one of the most well-rounded racers on the DH circuit, ended up in the final with Spain’s Andreu Lacondeguy, one of the world’s best-known freeriders. Lacondeguy, who actually has history battling the clock as a DH racer, gave Fairclough a run for his money but in the end pushed too hard and ended his race in a spectacular cloud of dust while the British World Cup racer sailed over the finish line to take gold.

In the battle for third place two freeriders were pit against each other; American Kyle Strait, who qualified first yesterday, and Sweden’s Martin Soderstrom. Soderstrom was pulling out Joyride-worthy tricks in every heat but in the small final was bucked on a roller and fell, giving Strait the bronze.

Pro freerider Cam McCaul, who lent his expertise as an announcer at the Dual Speed & Style, feels that going fast and having the ability to pull multiple variations of tricks is going to be the type of riding that will prevail in future rounds of Speed & Style.

“Andreu was going up against a World Cup racer so he had to push his speed limits beyond probably what was comfortable for him,” says McCaul. “That race was his to lose but Andreu actually had the speed to stay with Brendan, and the tricks to take the win, if he could have held on. You have to keep within 1.2 seconds in the ‘speed’ area to take the win with ‘style’.”

Dual Speed & Style is a new event on the freeride mountain bike scene. Riders race through a dual course head-to-head for time and earn .6 second deductions for the most stylish tricks pulled on the mid-course booters. Partly influenced by motocross and then brought to life by Kyle Strait’s glory run through the dual course in Whistler during Crankworx in 2011, the SRAM Dual Speed & Style in Les 2 Alpes on July 12, 2012 was the first Speed & Style event organized by Crankworx with Cam Zink taking the win. Judging by the crowds gathered today for the Dual Speed & Style presented by Avid, the event is an exciting addition to the world of freeride competition.

Tonight the Bud Light Crankworx Concerts featured ambient rock and power-pop starting with Jets Overhead at 7:45pm and Said The Whale at 8:45pm at Whistler Olympic Plaza. Nukeproof Launches Proto DJ Frame

Less than a month after the release of our Rook slopestyle bike we’re excited to bring you news of our prototype dirt jump frame which will be unveiled at this week’s iXS Dirt Masters Festival in Winterberg, Germany.

An ongoing development project with newly signed Nukeproof rider Jack Fogelquist, the frame uses custom triple-butted steel tubing with a 44mm headtube, gold anodised alloy chain tension adjusters, an integrated gold alloy seat clamp and removable cable guides.

The frame, available in regular and long, is designed around a 100mm travel fork and uses geometry based on Jack’s personal setup. Priced at around the £350 mark we’ll be unveiling the full production model at this year’s Eurobike show.

You can get a sneak peak of the prototype version of the frame at this week’s iXS Dirt Masters Festival in Winterberg, Germany. For more information head to the

2012 Monster Energy White Style Date Announced

The Monster Energy White Style presented by Kona takes place for the sixth time on January 27th 2012 in Leogang. So far, it has not been part of country lore that British are exceptionally comfortable in Austria. But in the case of the Monster Energy White Style presented by Kona, this thesis has proven to be accurate over the last few years. FMB World Tour rider Sam Pilgrim has already reserved January 27th in his time table to visit Leogang again, continue his series of victories and try the hat trick: Three wins in a row, adding the third to his first places in 2010 and 2011.

The early kick-off event of the international freeride mountain bike scene takes place for the sixth time this year. The Monster Energy White Style presented by Kona has been able to gain the reputation of a truly unique winter event over the past few years. There is no comparable competition on snow, worldwide. It is no wonder then that the entire freestyle elite comes to Leogang year after year.

Beside the double winner from the last two years, Sam Pilgrim, there is another UK national traveling to the Salzburger Land in the deepest winter: together with the course builders from HU Cooperation, freestyle veteran Grant „Chopper“ Fielder has been designing the massive jumps for years, building them only from snow and wood. Thanks to the winterly conditions, Chopper’s very daring course layouts go beyond the ordinary dimensions of a mountain bike freestyle event, and are – not only for the British – a very welcome taste of what is to come; to shorten the long and eventless winter, and to blow off some steam before the actual season beginning.

The Monster Energy White Style presented by Kona participants are known to show in Leogang what kind of new tricks and moves they have been practicing over the winter months. The event is a sort of indicator and teaser for the new FMB World Tour season starting at the end of March. A lot of fun, the latest moves and tricks from the freeride circus, and of course the spectacular scenery always make it an extraordinary experience for the spectators as well the riders.

The Bikepark Leogang is already excited to see this year’s ideas of the course designer and is looking forward to a high-class rider’s line-up. If you want to find out what the special relationship of the British pros with the White Style is all about, (Lance McDermott and Sam Reynolds were already on the podium in Leogang as well) and if Sam Pilgrim can manage the hat trick, January 27th 2012 at the Schanteilift in Leogang is the time and place to be.
