2012 Kali Protectives Fall Of The Enduro At The DIrt Club

SANTA BARBARA, CA., (October 4th 2012) – KALI Protectives The FALL OF THE ENDURO p/b VP will be an awesome and exciting test of speed, skill and endurance for mountain bike enthusiasts of all levels.

For info visit www.vp-usa.com/enduro

On November 3rd,  2012 we will throw our second Enduro race at the Dirt Club in Santa Ynez, CA.  This second event grows out of the success of the VP Components Dirt Club Enduro held last July.  We are proud to say that we did such a great job with the first race that the riders demanded a fall event too!

Athletes will prove their skill and speed on the bike through 9 special stages while enduring a 3hr day in the saddle. The format follows that of WRC auto racing and European style MTB Enduro events.

After the event, and awards ceremony, we will host a party with tri-tip grilled on site, music, and a screening of a great MTB movie under the stars... and SURPRISE it is all included in the $40 entry fee!

Our event will feature predominantly downhill timed special stages linked together by non-timed liaison stages.  Each rider will complete the courses on the same bike without shuttles or lifts, riding along through check-points to the start of each timed special stage.

This is an event that is all about having fun and riding your bike fast.  The top athlete in each category will be the fastest and most skillful bike handler for sure. There will be a mix of Downhill type tracks, Super D tracks, and XC descents.  And because the riders will have to ride the liaison to the start of each timed stage, there will be a fitness element to this race, but with a totally chilled-out vibe.  There will be $1000 cash payout in the Open/Expert Men and and high value prizes in every category.

The Stages:

The KORE Pump Track Prologue : Show Your Flow and have some fun before things get too serious!  This short blast around the pump track will be used to set the start order for the next stage and establish the pecking order!

VP COMPONENTS Session 1- features two laps of a 4 mile loop with 2 special stages per lap for a total of 8 miles and 4 timed special stages.  The special stages will all be short in duration, ranging from high-speed flowing trails, to short downhill tracks with berms, jumps, and drops.  Climb to the top of each timed stage at your own pace, then drill it down the course for your race time.  One of our courses will be a new trail built at the DIRT CLUB just for this event!

KALI Protectives Session 2 features two laps of a second 4 mile loop with 2 special stages per lap for a total of 8 miles and 4 timed special stages.  The special stages will all be short in duration, ranging from flowing Super D trails, to more technical tracks that will require a bit more handling skill. Again, climb to the top of each timed stage at your own pace, then drill it down the course for your race time.

*All stages are able to be ridden by beginners.  There are slower beginner “ride-arounds” for more difficult terrain where necessary.

DVO Suspension Website Is Live

DVO is short for “Developed” and DVO is a new suspension company with over 80 years of suspension building, tuning, designing, and riding experience.

Bryson Martin, founder and inspiration behind DVO Suspension, has spent his entire professional life, or more than 30 years, working in the bike business. During most of this time, he was an integral driver at Marzocchi Suspension, where Bryson was responsible for many groundbreaking ideas including its legendary Bomber Line. In 2012, Bryson wanted to take this experience to the next level to form a suspension program purely focused on performance and first-rate customer service. Thus DVO Suspension was created.

Bryson began mountain bike riding and racing in the late 1970s, also working in a few bike shops during high school and college. After graduating in the mid 1980s, he joined a small California-based mountain bike company called Brave Cycles. There he raced, managed product and marketing, collaborated on the company’s corporate design campaigns, and learned the ins-and-outs of what it took to compete in the fast-growing mountain bike arena.

Racing a lot of motocross as a kid, Bryson always believed that riders needed suspension on their fully rigid mountain bikes – after all, we’re riding and racing on the same dirt surface as do motorcycles. So why couldn’t riders enjoy suspension on their bikes, too? This idea led to attempts at making his own suspension forks, finally connecting with Marzocchi Suspension in 1989. This decision arose out of familiarity, as many of his motocross bikes came with Marzocchi. Why not give them a try for bicycle suspension?

It wasn’t easy initially, with mountain biking an American sport and invented in America. This European company had more going against it in every way, while Rock Shox and Manitou gained a solid foothold in the burgeoning bicycle suspension business. Nevertheless, following a few decades at Marzocchi – where Bryson handled everything from warranty work to World Cup racing, marketing, global sales, and product innovation – he’d garnered all of the learning and proficiency required to launch his own suspension program: DVO.

  • 142mm x 12mm rear spacing

TRAIL BIKE 29

“Quiver Killer” meets carbon. 2 years in development, Niner’s highly anticipated and requested carbon trail bike finally makes an appearance. The R.I.P. 9 RDO incorporates global rider feedback as well as Niner’s rigorous carbon design, engineering and testing standards. Our alloy R.I.P. 9 has over 30 glowing media reviews for ride quality and handling - the R.I.P. 9 RDO takes these characteristics and ups the ante with carbon frame, linkages, ISCG compatibility and additional travel.

CVA™ SUSPENSION

The R.I.P. 9 RDO features Niner’s patented CVA suspension (U.S. Patent No. 7,934,739) and delivers 125mm of fully active travel with superb compliance and damping via a tuned for CVA Fox Float CTD Factory Shock with Trail Adjust and Kashima Coat. For those seeking the technical advantages of 29” wheels combined with pedaling efficiency across all chainring combinations (not just the middle ring), CVA™ is the front-runner. The result? A faster, smoother ride up and down the trail.

VERSATILE GEOMETRY

To progress as a rider you need predictability, balance and nimble handling and Niner is the company that first made fun trail bike 29ers a reality. Climbing or descending, the geometry of the R.I.P. 9 RDO is tuned to keep you in control and ready to conquer new terrain at every turn. The R.I.P. 9 RDO is intended for 120 to 140mm forks, allowing riders to further fine tune the ride.

C5 WARRANTY

Our robust R&D program - computer modeling, physical prototype testing (both in-house and at independent testing facilities), and hours of riding by skilled and abusive individuals make us confident that the R.I.P. 9 RDO will exceed your expectations. We maintain that our carbon fiber development rivals the best in the bike industry and to back it up we offer our C5 warranty (five year) and a standard-setting commitment to customer service.

TAPERED HEADTUBE

The increased surface area of a tapered headtube allows for a larger downtube, increasing strength and rigidity at this critical intersection. Tapered fork steerer tubes measurably reduce fork deflection, which means your Niner tracks straight and true. The full spectrum of riders from XC racers to All Mountain shredders benefit from these features which is why we incorporate the technology in all our new frames. The R.I.P. 9 RDO lets you take full advantage of increased steering precision as you negotiate your daily dose of singletrack.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

When you are in the backcountry, the details are what take your ride into the sublime. The trim and sexy carbon links rotate on oversized Angular Contact Bearings for awesome lateral rigidity and immediate power transfer, dropper post routing and ISCG 05 chainguide compatibility mean you can build this bike to fit your ride style and an integrated replaceable skid plate lets you try that optional line with confidence. The R.I.P. 9 RDO features more tire clearance, full housing internal cable routing for a clean look and precision-machined alloy interfaces for the bottom bracket, direct-mount front derailleur and brake caliper post mounts.

R.I.P. 9 RDO frames and bikes will be shipping in March before the mountain trails melt.

Complete bikes will be offered with limited edition top-end build kits.

Magura Wins Gold And Silver At 2012 London Olympics

Gold and silver in London with MAGURA Parts
Medal win for Julie Bresset and Sabine Spitz with MT8 brakes

The two fastest women in the Olympic cross-country race trusted in MAGURA parts: The 23-year-old Frenchwoman Julie Bresset took gold in London and Sabine Spitz from Germany's Black Forest took silver. The 40-year-old German completed her collection of Olympic medals after bronze in Athens in 2004 and gold in Beijing in 2008.

The artificially constructed cross-country race track at Hadleigh Farm - an hour to the east of London - was particularly challenging: Jumps, steep curves and technically demanding stoney sections challenged both riders and bikes. Julie Bresset managed it best: The 23-year-old pulled away from Sabine Spitz and the American Georgia Gould in the fourth of six laps to finally take gold with some considerable lead. The light hardtail used by Bresset was equipped with the MT8 brake by MAGURA. Her closest rival, the German Sabine Spitz, rode a 650B hardtail also with MT8 brakes and a new TS suspension fork by MAGURA. The light and reliable suspension fork from the Team Suspension range for 27.5 inch or 650B provides stiffness with its 15-millimetre thru axle and therefore also precision steering.

MT8: The first choice for cross-country
With the MT8, MAGURA provides the first disc brake in the world with master cylinders on the brake lever constructed entirely of carbon. The new material allows a slim and ergonomic brake handle shape developed in collaboration with the Ergonomics Department of the Technical University of Dresden. For those braking with the index and middle finger - like Julie Bresset - the ergonomics of the brake lever are perfect.  The carbon-fibre casing and carbon lever make the MT8 one of the lightest disc brakes on the market and so a first choice for cross-country racers like Sabine Spitz and Julie Bresset.

Fork for 27.5 inch wheels: 650B model by MAGURA
Only few manufacturers offer as broad a spectrum of 650B models as MAGURA. For the new trend, the Swabian hydraulics expert has forks of 120 to 150 millimetres travel in its range. They can be used with almost all 650B/27.5 inch tyres on the market.

Special bearings and grease ensure a particularly sensitive response, while the QR15 thru axle provides high stiffness. The TS8 with 120 millimetre hub is already available with weights upwards of 1,630 grams. Sabine Spitz used an especially light TS 8 SL suspension fork with 80 millimetre travel.
